Human remains have been discovered by investigators inside the vehicle of a lady and her kid who vanished in Arkansas 23 years ago.
According to a statement from the Pope County Sheriff’s Office, Samantha Jean Hopper’s automobile was discovered under eight feet of water on Tuesday by Adventures With Purpose, a nonprofit organization that helps solve cold cases around the country.
On September 11, 1998, Hopper’s missing report was sent.
The statement said that Samantha, her daughter, and her blue Ford Tempo were never located. According to reports, Samantha was her route to Little Rock to drop off her daughter Courtney Holt before attending a show.
The nonprofit organization found the car eight feet below the surface.
Officials said they will transport the human remains in the car to the Arkansas State Crime Lab in Little Rock for a DNA analysis.
In a statement, the Pope County Sheriff’s Office said, “We would like to express our deepest sympathies to the family of Samantha Hopper and Courtney Holt and are honored to have contributed in any way to the resolution of this 23-year-old case.”
On a memorial website, Hopper’s daughter Dezarea stated that her mother was nine months pregnant when she disappeared.
The sister of Dezarea was about two years old. Dezarea said it was a “relief” to find their remains.
