Why you should always put a coin in the freezer before you leave home

When you arrive home from a trip, has your digital clock ever been reset? This typically means that there was a power outage, but you can never be certain if your food is still safe because you can never tell when or how long it lasted.

A lady named Sheila Pulanco Russell shared a useful tip on Facebook for determining whether food in your freezer is still edible after a power outage.

toward those of you who are heading toward the shore, I have some excellent recommendations. It’s referred to as the one-cup tip, says Sheila. You put a cup of water in your freezer. Once it has frozen in the freezer, place a quarter on top of it and preserve it there.

You can determine if your food has gone bad with this simple trick. “If the quarter has defrosted and fallen to the bottom of the cup, you should throw away the meal. However, your food can still be good if the quarter is either at the top or in the center of the cup.

Sheila suggests keeping the cup in your freezer at all times just for peace of mind. If the food doesn’t make you happy, just throw it out. The most crucial factor is everyone’s safety.

Please share this tip with your family members; it could just save a life.
