Children are often ignorant of the potentially harmful consequences that might arise from following trends they see online without due consideration. Unfortunately, Tommie-Lee Billington, an 11-year-old child who was innocent, died because of this misinformation. People are now being warned about the dangers of social media by his heartbroken family.
The unfortunate incident occurred after Tommie accepted a dangerous challenge from a buddy on TikTok during a visit at their residence. In order to do well on this particular activity, you had to breathe in dangerous gases or chemicals. Tommie died too soon after his heart stopped suddenly, which was devastating.
This terrible loss happens frequently. Furthermore, two adolescent females lost their lives while participating in the same perilous TikTok “challenge.” We need to make people aware of this possibly deadly propensity and take proper measures in order to protect our children.
Tommie’s mother Sherry has taken to social media to urge parents to have honest conversations with their children and prevent them from acting recklessly on TikTok. In an anguished Facebook post, she writes, “This cost my son his life from trying something other kids are doing.” Please talk to your children about the implications of this. Why someone would even try this is beyond me! It’s quite dangerous!
Sherry continues by expressing her anguish and her resolve to uphold her son’s memory by raising awareness and keeping other children from meeting the same awful end. Together, let’s support Tommie’s family at this terrible time of loss and ensure that no other child is impacted by this worrying trend.
Tommie, peace be with you. We sincerely apologize to your family. Now let’s collaborate to spread this vital information so that no kid dies needlessly.
