On February 3, 2024, a mysterious woman posted a captivating poster detailing how her 13-year marriage took an unexpected turn. Her husband, who had first seemed pleased with his work, later grew irate and declared that he was going to apply for a job across the country.

Not long after this announcement came an unexpectedly direct and frank advice. “He went on a tirade about how terrible I am and out of nowhere suggested a separation,” read the Original Poster (OP). Even though they’d experienced ups and downs in the past, she felt that this response was overly dramatic and unfounded.

Over the next several weeks, OP was informed of her husband’s extensive interaction with an old acquaintance who had recently gone through a divorce and who had been instrumental in helping him secure this potential employment. They exchanged more than 500 SMS messages a day, or almost 24,000 texts in a single month, demonstrating how intensive their communication was.

The vast majority of the online comments on OP’s post were critical, calling her a “NTA” for the decisions and actions she took in the face of her husband’s betrayal and cunning plans.

The husband’s plan was extremely clear: he was going to relocate the entire family, including the OP, his mother, and their two elementary-aged children. When OP made this choice, she took into account all of the sacrifices she had made in the past, such as moving for his graduate program and present job. She expressed her dismay, saying, “Moving away from the kids’ school and friends, as well as my work and friends, is unconscionable.”

The tension increased when her spouse traveled to the potential workplace for what was supposed to be a one-day interview but ended up taking four days. At this point, OP came across material that seemed to suggest he planned to establish a sexual connection.

Upon his return, he justified his claim that he had been “unhappy for 15 years” when questioned. When OP found out about this, she started to question whether it was her fault because she had considered divorcing and requesting physical possession of their kids so they could remain in the state.

Her spouse emphasized the need for the children to have their father present, citing his own experience of growing up without one, and claimed that she was required for the children’s welfare.

The vast majority of the online comments on OP’s post were critical, calling her a “NTA” for the decisions and actions she took in the face of her husband’s betrayal and cunning plans. Her online community rallied behind her, offering advice and context-specific analysis.

One commentator stated, “He’s upset because he lost his leverage when you found out and hired a lawyer.” It appears that his plan was to move all of you and then anchor those kids to his new location. You and the kids were left stranded. Wonderful job! Without a doubt, you are NTA!

Meanwhile, someone else spoke the words “Nta. He doesn’t get to destroy everyone’s life because he is having an affair and doesn’t want to cause issue for anyone.

A third voice answered, “NTA-no way would I move just for him to divorce you when you move.” Definitely obtain a divorce as soon as possible before he gives up his job.

What are your thoughts on this story? Is it appropriate for the spouse of the individual in question to desire to be apart from his spouse and to put pressure on her to move across the country for him? How would you react to the situation if you were in the position of the OP? Would you agree with the husband’s decision or not?
