Beloved Sports Reporter’s 2-Year-Old Daughter Has Passed Away Following Valiant Battle With Leukemia

At the age of two, Hallie Kyed was given an acute myeloid leukemia diagnosis in April 2023, or nine months ago. Unfortunately, as her father, Doug Kyed, an NFL reporter for the Boston Herald, disclosed on Instagram, Hallie passed away on January 21 at the age of 2.

Things went to hell, according to Kyed, when his daughter had a recurrence following a bone marrow transplant. Her chemotherapy had finished.

“Hallie passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday morning while Jen and I held her hands in bed,” Doug writes. “We feel depressed and completely adrift without Hallie. Our lives will never be the same again.

Doug continued by describing his little daughter as “a special kid.”” Moreover, even at the young age of two, “she made a positive impact on so many people she met.”

We were privileged to be Olivia’s parents, and she had the most amazing baby sister.

The family “knew the prognosis was poor when she relapsed after her bone marrow transplant,” the reporter stated, adding that they “spent special time at the hospital last week, but we held out hope for remission because of how brave, strong, and resilient Hallie had been through her entire nine-month battle with acute myeloid leukemia and all of its complications.”

Hallie’s aggressive form of leukemia had grown out of control by the time she started a trial treatment, and chemotherapy following transplant was ineffective, despite her bravery and perseverance in the face of such tragedy.

For their efforts, Doug praised the doctors at Boston Children’s Hospital, saying that “they did everything they could to help Hallie, and she beat AML every day for over nine months straight.” Nothing could have possible prepared us for this moment, not even after her transplant went well in October, or even when she was initially diagnosed in April.

He would hear Hallie yell “DADDDDYYY” and ask him to “take her on a walk around the hospital floor.” In addition, Hallie would give him “sweet little pats on the back when I took her out of her crib,” the grieving father disclosed.

Hal, my sour patch kid, my small Hallie Bear, my koala baby, was amusing by nature (and knew it), extraordinarily beautiful, and destined to be a dancing class star. The nurses, doctors, and medical staff had great pleasure in speculating about the princess outfit she would be wearing that day (or at that particular hour).

In addition, Doug wishes that the bereaved people will take one lesson from his daughter: “to know exactly what you want and to be persistent in asking for it, whether it’s going for a walk, taking a car ride, or dressing like one of your favorite Disney characters (usually Cruella).” Even so, he hopes, “the world is a worse place without Hallie in it.”

I love telling her how much I appreciate her, touching her hair, and kissing her on the head. Hallie for eternity.

Hallie will be buried on January 26. We are keeping the Kyed family in our prayers and thoughts during this very difficult time.
