This woman woke up to an unusual noise and saw two squirrels in her window. Cute rodents were hiding in the corner of the entryway.
She could gaze at the squirrels’ embraces for hours on end. She really loved the sweet expressions they made on their faces while they slept.
But as she examined the creatures closely, she had the shock of her life.
At forty-four, Mia was having a great start to her life. She had not slept well in years until that night. It had been ages since she had stayed in bed past seven o’clock.
Her spouse and son had gone skiing. Throughout their “man-to-man” journey, the mother relished her freedom. She had a week to do anything she wanted. Is there anyone who wouldn’t want this?
Mia had only been out of the house for one day, but already she was enjoying herself. Unfortunately, this freedom would not last long.
What a pleasure it is to wake up with no chores to accomplish. This brought back memories of her undergraduate days for Mia. She could have ordered a nice breakfast, spent the entire day in bed, and watched Netflix back then. The house was quiet and serene as well. The exhausted woman made the decision, “I’ll take a nap before I eat.” She turned and closed her eyes again.
With a start, Mia opened her eyes and cried, “What was that?!” But as soon as the shouts subsided, she turned back around. “An external factor most likely caused it.” Her eyes shifted to the other side of the mattress. She heard the voice again.
A strange, high-pitched sound. She was sure now that the sound was not far away. She focused her attention. After giving the voice some attention, she yelled, “It’s coming from the window!” and got out of bed to approach the window.
In a nest, two little squirrels were fast asleep. The voices originated from this way. The curtain in this room had been closed for a few weeks, so she was blind to the fact that these cute animals were making a nest here. “I have to get this on camera,” she thought to herself fast. She quickly reached for her camera and began taking pictures of the cute squirrels. Her good fortune was unbelievable.
Two squirrel puppies snuggled together within the nest. As the little creatures got out of bed, Mia noticed their serene disposition. She would have touched and rubbed their heads if she could have opened the window, but sadly she was unable to do so.
“Their mother must have left them alone to look for food,” she thought, shaking her head to get the perfect picture from every angle. Really, all she wanted was a decent picture of their cute, sleepy faces.
Mia started to tremble all over. She was rendered completely dumbfounded by what she saw. She told herself, “It has to be a joke.” I hope that’s not the case. I must have misunderstood.
Her hands trembling, she reached for the camera and zoomed in again. That’s when she saw it again. Her skin turned pale. She did not know what to do. unwilling to look away. She had never experienced anything like this before.
“Why does this happen to me when my family is away from home?” she pondered. “I have to call them before it’s too late.” She grabbed her phone and called her husband.
She hoped her husband wasn’t out skiing so he could get her phone call. However, Mia was lucky. Mia gave her hubby the lowdown as soon as he replied. Her husband answered right away, stating that Mia and her family were still waiting for the newspaper to arrive at their door after a week had passed. Gazing out of the window, she saw the boy delivering the newspaper. Mia called the police immediately, but they would not arrive for at least ten minutes. “Why don’t you come sooner?” she blurted out.
Mia waited for the bell to ring while she stood by the window. She liked to behave independently, but it wouldn’t be a good idea in this situation. A few minutes later, she heard the mailbox and rushed to the front door.
The family members gathered and read the entire newspaper article out loud:
Mia discovered a squirrel nest in her house last week, but an eagle sitting on a tree across from them threatened to murder the small rodents. Mia promptly notified the authorities, and together with the fire department, the nest was successfully preserved. The eagle flew off from that point.
