Julia Roberts displayed her emotions as she attended the Kennedy Center Honors event on Sunday in Washington, DC, sporting a gown adorned in images of her longtime friend George Clooney.
Elizabeth Stewart, the actress’ stylist, said on Instagram that the dress was made expressly for her by Moschino’s creative director, Jeremy Scott. The outfit included images of the actor in different gold frames throughout his career, such as his role in “ER” and his polka-dot cover for the December 2013 art edition of W Magazine.Roberts wore a cropped black jacket and silver jewelry as accessories to go with her red carpet look.
For a pre-ceremony reception President Joe Biden gave earlier in the evening for the Kennedy Center honorees, Roberts tried to dress differently. Images from Sunday show the actress at the White House East Room wearing a sophisticated black gown with glossy lapels.
Stewart and Roberts’ representatives did not respond to Insider’s request for comment right away.
Clooney was recognized at the event on Sunday along with Gladys Knight, composer Tania León, singer-songwriter Amy Grant, and members of U2 (Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr.). The actor was honored for both his lengthy career in show business and his volunteer work.
Roberts and Clooney have been friends for a very long time; in 2016, Clooney told People that they first worked together on the 2001 heist film “Ocean’s Eleven.” The romantic comedy “Ticket to Paradise,” which is set in 2022 and revolves on a divorced couple who band together to disrupt their daughter’s wedding, is the film in which the two most recently starred together.
On set, the well-known friends are known to make fun of one another and pull practical jokes on one another. During an October interview, Roberts disclosed to Jake Hamilton of Good Day Chicago that she had Clooney saved on her phone under the name “Batman.”
During a 2013 BAFTA Britannia Awards address, Clooney remarked of Roberts, “It’s very hard for me to be just straight nice because she’ll get me later,” according to the New York Daily News. “However, she is simply an incredible wife, mother, and friend.”
