Everyone has an opinion, even though we usually forget that it’s best to keep our ideas to ourselves.
Recently, a 76-year-old fashion influencer posted a photo of herself on Instagram sporting a midi sleeveless dress. The post received a lot of attention, but not all of it was favorable.
“This is not the first time something like this has happened, but this one surprised me,” Candace Cima said to TODAY. “Many people still view age-appropriate clothing in such an outdated manner, and this needs to change.”
After eleven grandchildren, Cima wore a jumper and a brown knit sleeveless dress.
In the comments area, the pro-aging influencer got a lot of support as well as a lot of criticism.
“There is no way that the side or back of this outfit will help you. Below the waist, form fitting isn’t your best friend. Rather, appreciate every other aspect of your physique! A comment was made on Facebook.
“I like the sweater on, but not the dress,” remarked one individual.
Not even remotely flattering. Another person stated, “I’m too old to be showing all that skin.” Never would I wear it by myself.
“I don’t feel bad about having wrinkles at the age of 76; it’s totally normal.” the woman remarked. There are times when I want to respond, “Should I cover my face too, since I have wrinkles there?”
In 2019, Cima launched her fashion blog to address a need in the market for senior ladies.
“I saw an opportunity to discuss how to dress appropriately for your age.” Women are conditioned to believe that, in order to survive, they must hide, just as their mothers and grandmothers did.
“Adjusting our understanding of age is necessary.” In the contemporary world, we don’t have to hold onto these outmoded notions.
Cima chose to mentor a handful of her less seasoned and more recent followers, ignoring the numerous taunts.
“Aging is a wonderful thing.” You find yourself suddenly able to access every event of your life. You are the smartest person you will ever be right now. Acknowledge it and be proud of it.
When a 76-year-old grandmother shared a sleeveless dress on social media, she was criticized for showing off her arms. Whatever the opinions of others, I think she’s gorgeous!
